PHILIP HOLMES (MECHANICAL ENGINEERING)

PETER SINGER (PHILOSOPHY)

He may be known as “that guy who thinks it’s OK to kill babies,” but that doesn’t stop philosopher Peter Singer’s class from drawing a crowd. Word has it that taking Practical Ethics with him is sure to turn you vegetarian, if not change your mind about how to treat newborns. Be sure to plan your class schedule in advance—he only teaches it every other year!

PHILIP HOLMES (MECHANICAL ENGINEERING)

Engineers often get a reputation for staying separate from other departments, but Professor Philip Holmes shatters that stereotype at every turn. Though he’s based in the mechanical engineering department, where he develops methods for analyzing models of solid, fluid and biological systems, he also works in the mathematics department on chaos theory, and in the neuroscience department on legged locomotion. If that wasn’t enough, he has also published several books of poetry. Well-rounded much?
