BRIAN KERNIGHAN (COMPUTER SCIENCE)

Aside from contributing to the development of the operating system UNIX and programming languages like AWK, Brian Kernighan is also well known for writing the first book on the programming language C. Despite his prominence within the computer science department, he tries to stay approachable, teaching an introductory class for non-majors every fall. He also teaches a popular 200-person class on advanced programming techniques where tries to learn the name of each and every student, going as far as taking your picture for reference if you come to office hours!
